Details:

The FHTR series was available in one or two channel model's, and could be ordered with extra transmitters receivers inside for broad band operation. As can be confirmed in the photos both sides of radiophone boldly feature the iconic script name and company brand MOTOROLA in silver colored print. I consistently prepare accurate and detailed and provide clear close up photographs for all my listings. The toggle switch functions properly and has a strong snap on off when the toggles moved.

The underside of the handset has a single spring-loaded push-button user would push to transmit and subsequently release listened receiving transmission. The radio box is all metal and has a crinkle painted gray surface. The opposite side of the radio provides threaded stud connection which I assume is where antenna would be screwed in. Thirty years after its development, this very concept and design undoubtedly set the stage for what would later be recognized as the first portable cellular telephones colloquially referred to bag phone.

The aforementioned notwithstanding, note the photos are still the biggest and most important part of this or any. I copied the below brief history regarding the Motorola Radiophone for your further review and consideration. For your consideration is this very cool early production 70 year old vintage 1948-1956MotorolaHandie-Talkie FM Radiophone model FHTRU-1 DL VINTAGE. The radiophone features an ON/OFF toggle switch which is located to the side of where handset cord screwed into and connected radio box.

For the record I have no idea what letters R and represent and/or purposes of two small holes are for. This early model Motorola radio is a great vintage piece that any vintage and/or memorabilia enthusiast would appreciate acquiring for display among their collection. The FHTR modules and basic design we reincorporated into a custom made forest service semi-portable repeater station called lookout radio which as the name implies was used in forest service towers throughout country. Given the overall condition, I also believe this radiophone would make a nice candidate for possible repair and/or restoration if new owner desired to bring it back its original state and operable once again.

The outside surface of the box has scattered minor surface blemishes consistent with honest age and prior use. The radiotelephone handset appears to be made of Bakelite or similar material and is the typical mid-century design. Most handsets appear to have been supplied by renewal Corporation, N.Y. Refer to all the photos confirm the overall condition and for more details about what I have described.

The portables are probably most appropriately called Research Line rather than Dispatcher or Deluxe portables although they actually have nothing in common with either equipment series. As the old saying goes, a picture is worth thousand words. Overall, this vintage Motorola Handi-Talkie radiophone remains in very good cosmetic condition and provides an excellent and historically accurate example of a bygone era of radio technologies. There was no speaker, only a handset which hung on cradle across the top.

The surface of the handset is clean and smooth with no damage such as cracks, splits, chips or gouges and/or any repairs to outer case can be confirmed in photos. The bottom half of the radiophone is removable thereby providing access to area where you would install a fresh battery and also internal electrical components radio. One side of the radiophone also has letters R and handwritten in blue marker. Although I cannot confirm the actual date of production, low two-digit serial number leads me to believe radiophone was most likely manufactured sometime in 1948-1949.

The radiotelephones made out of metal and weighs approximately 8.30 pounds by itself. Chicago REC blank-space. The radiophone was issued a very low two-digit serial number of 36 as seen embossed on the metal specification/identification plate located beneath radio handset cradle. The strap shows signs of honest age and wear with scattered fraying some areas small material loss situated along the outside edges.

Note; first and foremost, this radiophone no longer has the required battery pack so its separability cannot be tested. To that end, the radiophone is being offered in AS IS condition with full understanding and acknowledgement that it for display purposes only repair and/or restoration.
